Recovery!

Greetings from my bed!

Surgery went great yesterday. Phelps is such a nice hospital, everyone was so kind and caring. All the nurses, my surgical team was AWESOME! They wheeled me in right on time, got me all prepped and stuff. The wheel on my bed got stuck on the way and of course I made a joke about getting the bum cart lol Dr Keleman was on his phone when we got in and I asked him if he was watching TikTok videos lmao. I requested some fun music to go to sleep too and the Surgical Nurse and Surgical Resident put Lizzo on! So we were singing “Its about damn time…” as the anesthesiologist put me to sleep. He was impressed I knew all the words, I said oh you have no idea lol and I told them to have fun while I was asleep.

Anesthesia is such a weird thing to wake up from. I always get my hearing back first. I woke up in the OR to them putting the bra on me and then I think I went out again and then woke up in the recovery room, I don’t recall being wheeled in there so not really sure. It was approx 3:45pm when I was in recovery.

Dr Kelemen called my mother (who missed the call the first time bc she’s special) and when they finally connected, he let her know I was done and heading to recovery. They removed the tumor plus 3 lymph nodes. The Dr said the lymph nodes look fine but of course that must be confirmed by the biopsy which I should have back in a week.

I woke up and was alert very quickly, the recovery nurse was surprised how quick I woke up. I asked for water or ice chips whatever bc my throat hurt. She wheeled me back to my regular room and they brought me water and graham crackers. I text mom and requested a Latte lol and by 5:08pm I was in the car headed home.

I know it’s our really great insurance system and not the hospital that kicks you out but honestly that should not be same day surgery. I was fine for most of the afternoon, but at 1am I got up to use the bathroom and got dizzy and fell on the floor. The anesthesia is still in the system and my blood pressure dropped. Thankfully I was in the door way so I just kind of slid down to the floor as opposed to actually full on falling. I was sweating profusely, it was kind of scary, I didn’t know what was happening. Mom got me an ice pack and wet cloths and I sat on the floor until it passed and I was able to get back up. I spoke with the nurse from the surgical unit this morning and she said its because of the anesthesia. Like honestly I should have been in the hospital longer.

It is what it is, I’m now 24 hours from surgery and I feel good. I’m sore in the surgical spot but the pain is minimal. I’ve had 2 Ibuprofen since yesterday. I am firmly planted in bed and resting.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out to me, sent food, gifts, flowers, it’s all very nice! I think I will be up for visitors tomorrow and through the weekend if anyone wants to stop by. Just text me!
