Lymph Node Pathology Results

Phase 1 Complete: I had my post-surgery follow up appointment with Dr Kelemen today. He said I am healing nicely! He told me that he removed all of the cancer, the margins were negative and lumpy was sent off for its Oncotype test to determine if I need chemo or not. I will get those results next week. He also gave me the pathology results from the lymph nodes. He removed 3 and all 3 were biopsied. Of the 3, 1 lymph node had a 2mm spot of cancer. It’s very miniscule and not concerning at all. He said we caught it on time as that tiny spot indicates it was about to spread so we got it before it did that. The other 2 lymph nodes were completely clear. Because of that tiny spot of cancer, my staging did change from Stage 1B to Stage 2A. Which he told me is not a huge deal, not to freak out about it. My bruising is also starting to look much better finally! I’m still numb and sore and can’t lift my arms but it’s ok.

I also signed Lumpy up for the Agendia FLEX Trial (https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT03053193) in which they will analyze 10,000 genes in lumpy as well as take all of my demographics and put them into the research database. This doesn’t do anything for my current treatment but what it will do is add to the database that analyzes the how’s, why’s, and treatment options/probabilities for future breast cancer patients. This is really great and I’m really proud to be able to contribute to this. Lumpy was the most common breast cancer and the more information generated and the more research done, the closer we come to raising the survival rates and if that’s means the little girls in my life have to worry about this kind of stuff less, than its all worth it.

Phase 2: I am also still moving along nicely with my fertility drugs and will most likely have my egg retrieval Monday or Tuesday of next week. Lots of stabby stabby of the needles and we added in a 3rd needle today. I’m halfway there!

Phase 3: I meet with my hematologist, Dr Katz on Wednesday at which time she should have the results of the Oncotype and we will know what is next, chemo or radiation and I will find out when I begin my hormone medications.
