Phase 3 complete.
My final round of chemo was completed Friday. We couldn’t go out without a bang I suppose… I went all 20 weeks of chemo without any additional illness… this week I went in with a head cold which just got worse as the weekend went on followed by a visit from a kidney stone Sunday evening… I’m exhausted.
Friday was bitter sweet… I mean obviously I was happy to be finished with chemo… but since June, my weekly visits to Phelps have become a routine. The nurses and assistants that know my name, greet me kindly, even in all my crazy moments 🤣. I will miss them… we talked about so many things… how many nurses waited to hear my opinion on Hocus Pocus 2… my NP who came to see me just to ask how the fundraiser went and see my pictures… Kenny the office manager hoping I’m not going to complain about something this week… but always taking care of me.
Now I shift to a different place for phase 4. I’ll be doing radiation in Nyack as it’s more convenient since I have to go every day. So I’ll meet a new set of nurses and technicians. It’s all very strange really… cancer treatment isn’t something to look forward to but there’s an odd sadness that comes when it’s over. I’ll miss my Phelps family.
A lot of emotions. Lots of tears. I remember looking down this road the night before chemo began, scared and not knowing what was to come and now I’m at the end of it… now on to radiation… this is the final aggressive treatment before I move into “the rest of my life”… it’s strange.
